The colossal Temples of Abu Simbel , built by the Great Ramses II in 1244 BC, consisting of two temples; the big one is for the King himself in dedication to the two sun gods, Amen and Ra. This temple is famous for the sun rays phenomenon that illuminates the shrine two days a year, on his birthday and the day of his coronation. The temple was relocated 64m higher after building Aswan High Dam to save it from being submerged. The smaller temple was created for the King's wife, Queen Nefertari, to worship the god Hathor.
